fast & furious

Where the smart kids win.

The Griffin is an unexpected combination. With the head and wings of an eagle and the body of a lion, this creature of legend was believed to possess both furious strength and remarkable intelligence. We chose the Griffin as our mascot because our student-athletes are an equally unexpected combination of academic ability and physical agility. If we were an ancient beast of lore, we would be called the Nerdjocken.

The Tribe is also a champion. Our 23 NCAA Division I athletic teams were the first to win more than 100 championship titles in the Colonial Athletic Association. Our football team is legitimately awesome (just ask Steeler's coach Mike Tomlin, who scored 20 touchdowns for the Tribe as a wide receiver). And our scholarship athletes graduate at one of the highest rates among Division I universities.

Come to William & Mary and believe in the Griffin.
