fast & furious

Where the smart kids win.

The Griffin is an unexpected combination. With the head and wings of an eagle and the body of a lion, this creature of legend was believed to possess both furious strength and remarkable intelligence. We chose the Griffin as our mascot because our student-athletes are an equally unexpected combination of academic ability and physical agility. If we were an ancient beast of lore, we would be called the Nerdjocken.

The Tribe is also a champion. Our 23 NCAA Division I athletic teams were the first to win more than 100 championship titles in the Colonial Athletic Association. Our football team is legitimately awesome (fun fact:  Steeler's coach Mike Tomlin scored 20 touchdowns for the Tribe as a wide receiver). And our scholarship athletes graduate at one of the highest rates among Division I universities.

Come to William & Mary and believe in the Griffin.
